District Energy St. Paul Tank Conversion Study

TKDA Provided Detailed Study to Allow District Energy to Improve Operations and Efficiency

To improve operations and efficiency, District Energy St. Paul wanted to convert the District Cooling 2.5M gallon chilled water thermal storage tank to a dual-use, chilled water and hot water thermal storage tank. TKDA prepared a study to recommend options for accommodating the pressure boundary that exists between the thermal storage tank and the hot (or chilled) distribution loop it serves. The study included six options to address the pressure boundary issue. During the study, our team thoroughly evaluated each option and accounted for operating costs, capital costs of the systems, risk assessment, and water treatment impact. The study allowed District Energy to determine the best solution to achieve the desired results.
