MSP United Airlines Aircraft Gate Assessment and Pavement Modifications

TKDA Streamlines Gate Configuration for United Airlines Fleet Integration

When United Airlines purchased Continental Airlines, they immediately began plans to integrate the two fleets. TKDA was selected to review the seven existing United and Continental Airline gates at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport for safety and effectiveness.

We reviewed the existing gate layouts to determine which gates could accommodate the combined aircraft fleet without modifications to the passenger boarding bridges or the fuel pits. After surveying existing conditions, TKDA provided detailed drawings of proposed gate layouts and markings along with a summary of proposed modifications and an overall analysis of their passenger boarding bridges. We also provided on-site coordination of the Continental Airlines paint crew as they updated pavement markings at each gate while minimizing disruption to United Airlines’ operations.
